February 6, 2003 Northwestern University
Northwestern University has agreed to pay $5.5 Million Dollars to settle claims raised in a qui tam lawsuit filed by Richard Schwiderski, a former employee of the University’s Office of Research Sponsored Programs. The allegations in the case were that in completing applications for the National Institutes of Health and other federal agencies grants, Northwestern overstated the percentage of the researchers’ work effort that they were able to devote to the grant.
As part of the settlement, Mr. Schwiderski will receive over $900,000 for having filed the qui tam case.
