A group of emergency physicians in Michigan, Medical Center Emergency Services, P.C., have agreed to pay $1.6 Million Dollars to settle claims asserted in a qui tam lawsuit filed by a Theresa Semtner, a private relator. The allegations of the case were that the group submitted false claims to Medicare, Medicaid, TRICARE and FEHBP by upcoding claims and thereby billing for more expensive services than those, which were actually provided by the physicians.

As part of the settlement, the relator who filed the qui tam action will receive nearly $280,000 for having filed the case.
