June 3, 2002  Eckerd Corporation

Eckerd Corporation, a nation retail pharmacy chain, has agreed to pay nearly $6 Million Dollars to settle claims asserted in a qui tam lawsuit filed by Louis H. Mueller, a former pharmacist with the chain. The allegations of the case were that Eckard dispensed partial or “short” prescriptions due to insufficient stock, but billed Medicaid, and the Federal Employee Health Benefits Program, TRICARE – the military health care program – for the full quantities prescribed for beneficiaries of the government health insurance programs.

As part of the settlement, Mr. Mueller will receive over $880,000 for having filed the qui tam case.
