June 12, 1998   University of Texas

The University of Texas Heath Science Center at San Antonio has agreed to pay over $17 Million Dollars to settle claims asserted in a qui tam action filed by a former employee, Benjamin Kready. The allegations of the case were that the University submitted false claims for reimbursement to several federally funded health care insurance programs, and more specifically, that it sought payment for services which were allegedly personally provided by faculty physicians when, in fact, the University’s records did not support such claims.

As part of the settlement, Mr. Kready will receive over $2.5 Million Dollars for having filed the qui tam case.
