June 15, 2006 Saint Barnabas Corporation

Saint Barnabas Corporation (SBC), the largest health case system in New Jersey, and the second largest employer in the state, has agreed to pay $265 Million to settle qui tam claims filed by three relators.  The allegations of the case were that SBC defrauded Medicare, by inflating charges for inpatient and outpatient care to make the each case appear more costly than they actually were.

The relators are expected to receive between $39.7 Million and $66.2 Million as a reward for having filed the qui tam claims.
