June 19, 1995  Becton Dickinson and Company Inc.

Becton Dickinson and Company Inc. of Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, has agreed to pay $3.3 Million Dollars to settle claims asserted in a qui tam lawsuit filed by David Siller, an employee of Scientific Supply Inc, which was a former distributor of Becton Dickinson products.

The allegations of the case were that Becton Dickinson failed to tell the government it gave discounts to commercial customers that were higher than those it disclosed to the government during contract negotiations with the government. As a result, the government allegedly overpaid Becton for petri plates, blood culture bottles and related items that are used in VA hospitals for microbiological tests.

As part of the settlement, Mr. Siller will receive over $560,000 for having filed the qui tam case.
