August 17, 2006 Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center

Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center has agreed to pay $3.8 Million Dollars to settle claims raised in a qui tam action filed by Dr. Christopher Mallavarapu, a Cardiologist.  The allegations of the case were that Our Lady of Lourdes center in Lafayette Louisiana performed unnecessary procedures upon patients, which included angiograms, angioplastys and stenting procedures, and then billed Medicare, Medicare and TRICARE for such unnecessary medical procedures.

As part of a settlement, Dr. Mallavarapu is to receive $760,000 for having filed the qui tam claims.
