Medical Consultants Inc. (MCI), an emergency physician billing company has agreed to pay $15 Million Dollars to settle allegations asserted in a qui tam case filed by Theresa Semter, a private relator. The allegations of the case were that MCI submitted false Medicare, Medicaid, TRICARE and FEHBP claims for patients seen by their physician clients. More specifically, in was alleged that MCI “upcoded” claims and thereby billed for services, which were more expensive than those which were actually provided.

As part of the settlement, the relator who filed the qui tam action will receive $3.2 Million Dollars for having filed the case.
