November 10, 2003  $2.1 Billion Recovered in 2003

The United States Justice Department has announced that in 2003, over $2.1 Billion Dollars was recovered under the False Claims Act. This amount represented a 75% increase from 2002, during which $1.1 Billion was recovered, and it brings the monies recovered to a total of more than $12 Billion Dollars since congress strengthened the False Claims Act in 1986.

Of the $2.1 Billion recovered in 2003, $1.48 Billion was recovered in qui tam lawsuits filed by relators under The False Claims Act.

In 2003 persons who filed qui tam actions received over $319 Million Dollars in rewards under the False Claims Act.
