November 16, 1998  Ingalls Shipbuilding

A Pascagoula Miss., shipbuilding company has agreed to pay over $2.5 Million Dollars to settle claims asserted in a qui tam action filed by Ronald Maze, a former manager at Ingalls. The allegations of the case were that Ingalls employed a fraudulent accounting practice in order to shift certain costs to Navy contracts, when they should have been charged to commercial contracts it had with private companies, and that the company billed the government for work it had not performed.

As part of the settlement, Mr. Maze will receive over $400,000 for having filed the qui tam case.
