March 12, 2009 — San Mateo County, California

San Mateo County, California has agreed to pay $6.8 Million to settle a qui tam claim filed against it by a County employee, Ronald M. Davis.

The allegations of the case were that the County falsely inflated a bed count (ie the number of beds) contained in the San Mateo Medical Center to receive higher payments from Medicare.

As a reward for having filed his qui tam claim, Mr. Davis will receive over $1 Million.
